Delegate Carter’s gubernatorial campaign staff voted unanimously to unionize with UFCW Local 400, a first in the history of Virginia gubernatorial campaigns.
In 2019, Delegate Carter’s staff became the first campaign workers in Virginia history to form a union after organizing with UFCW Local 400. Local 400 also represents the office staff of the Democratic Party of Virginia, and previously represented the staff of the Bernie Sanders presidential campaign, the first presidential campaign to unionize and the first to ratify a union contract.
Negotiations on the first union collective bargaining agreement with Delegate Carter’s campaign staff are now underway.
