On July 13, 2026, UFCW Local 400 members working at Solid State Books in Washington, DC ratified a new union contract.
The new three-year agreement has several highlights, including:
- Guaranteed annual pay increases
- Recall language
- Scheduling that includes two consecutive days off
- Increased minimum staffing
- Provisions protecting members from the effects of A.I.
The staff of Solid State Books unionized with UFCW Local 400 in 2023 and ratified their first contract a few months later. They were the second unionized bookstore in the District of Columbia to ratify a collective bargaining agreement, after Politics and Prose workers did so in 2022.
