Hundreds of Kroger Workers Hold Rallies for Fourth Week In A Row

Hundreds of Kroger workers held rallies at five Kroger stores this evening, marking the fourth straight week of actions calling on the grocery giant to negotiate a fair contract with 4,200 store associates in West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.

The workers called on Kroger to fully fund our health care benefits. Approximately 2,000 workers who rely on the health care benefits provided by our union contract with Kroger are at risk of losing their benefits if the company fails to adequately fund our health plan.

Our Actions Are Having An Impact – Keep the Pressure On Kroger!

Today, we received the clearest indication yet that our actions and solidarity are having an impact on our contract negotiations with Kroger. This morning, after weeks of insisting on huge cost increases to our premiums, copays, and other out-of-pocket healthcare expenses, Kroger finally put forth a proposal that is closer to maintaining our current healthcare benefits. Despite their claims, we are not there yet and do not have a fair deal we can recommend. We have stood strong and moved them away from their most outrageous healthcare proposals, but we must keep the pressure on to prevent any substantial cuts to our healthcare and to get the fair contract we deserve.

We know our actions are having an impact. Now is the time to keep the pressure on. Join us for our next day of action on Thursday, October 26. Make a plan to attend the action closest to you and spread the word to your friends and family using our website BetterKroger.org.

Your participation is making a difference. It is more important than ever for everyone to take action to keep the pressure on Kroger and to stay focused on our goal – to get a fair deal with no substantial changes to our health insurance. As negotiations continue, we will continue to keep you updated every step of the way. Thank you for all your support.

500 Members Rally For A Fair Contract

Negotiations Resume Tuesday, October 24

New Campaign Website Launched: BetterKroger.org

Yesterday, we sent Kroger a clear message: we deserve a fair contract. As we continue to do our jobs and serve our customers, it is also important that we enforce our contract and participate in every action at our stores and in our communities. The next big day of action will be Thursday, October 26. Make a plan to attend the action closest to you and let’s make them even bigger and better!

To help you spread the word, we have launched BetterKroger.org – our new campaign website to fight for a fair contract. BetterKroger.org will help us get the word out to our customers, neighbors, family, and friends to build the support we need to win a fair deal. Check it out and spread the word to your friends and family using the hashtag #BetterKroger.

We are back at the bargaining table on Tuesday, October 24 and every day through the rest of the week. It is our hope that Kroger is ready to negotiate a fair deal for all of us. While we are standing strong at the table, we are proud to know you continue to have our backs in the stores. We will keep going until we get a fair deal and we will keep you updated every step of the way.

Take Action For A Fair Contract – Thursday, October 19th

Negotiations with Kroger on our next union contract have stalled. We’ve made it clear to Kroger that we are not going to allow them to continue to stall the process. In order to get them to move, we must show them that we are willing to do whatever it takes to get a fair contract.

Join us on Thursday, October 19 to take action for a fair contract! We’re hosting simultaneous actions at five stores throughout the region from 4pm to 6pm.

Take Action For A Fair Contract – Thursday, October 19th

All actions take place 4:00pm – 6:00pm at each of these stores:
Kroger #790                133 Beckley Crossing Shopping Ctr, Beckley, WV 25801
Kroger #785                1100 Fledderjohn Rd, Charleston, WV 25314
Kroger #783                711 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Ashland, KY 41101
Kroger #799                1008 Washington Blvd, Belpre, OH 45714
Kroger #813                500 Suncrest Towne Centre Dr, Morgantown, WV 26505

Our past actions have gotten the company’s attention, but now it is time to show Kroger how serious we are. On October 19th, we need to be bigger and louder. We need to show Kroger that we won’t stop until we get a fair deal.

It is very important that you participate in every action you can. Let customers know how they can support us. Bring your coworkers, family members, and friends to the actions on the October 19th. We will not stop until we move Kroger to a fair deal.

Dozens of Kroger Workers Descend on Store in Morgantown

Dozens of Kroger workers descended on a store in Morgantown this evening in the fourth consecutive day of union actions calling on the company to negotiate a fair contract.

The current contract expires on Saturday, October 7, and covers 4,200 union members working at 39 Kroger stores in West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. This week, a federal mediator was called in to help move negotiations forward.

The workers handed out free cupcakes to customers to thank them for shopping at a union grocery store and to spread the word about the ongoing contract negotiations. On Friday evening, the workers plan to hold simultaneous actions at two stores in Lewisburg and Parkersburg in West Virginia.

Second Day Brings Larger Crowd Thanking Customers at Charleston Kroger Store as Week of Action Continues

A crowd of more than 60 Kroger associates gathered at a store in Charleston this evening for day two of a week of action calling on Kroger to negotiate a fair contract with the workers.

Yesterday, Kroger workers gathered at a store in Beckley and distributed “thank you” cards to customers to express gratitude to shoppers choosing to shop at the unionized grocery chain. The gathering was featured on WVVA News later that evening. Today’s crowd at the Charleston store also spent the evening passing out thank you cards to shoppers.

Actions are planned every evening this week as negotiations continue on a new union contract covering 4,200 Kroger employees at 39 stores in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky. A similar action is planned for tomorrow evening at a Kroger store in Ashland, Kentucky.

Local 400 Members Kickoff Week of Action Thanking Customers at West Virginia Kroger Store

Local 400 members rally at a Kroger store in Beckley, WV calling on the company to negotiate a fair contract.

Nearly 50 members of Local 400 gathered at a Kroger store in Beckley this evening to call on Kroger to negotiate a fair contract with associates. The members distributed “thank you” cards to customers to express their gratitude for shoppers choosing to support their local union grocery store.

Shoppers expressed overwhelming support for the workers. One shopper stopped to ask, “Are you on strike? Because I won’t cross a picket line!”

A local TV crew from WVVA News interviewed several members and plans to air the story this evening, October 2. Another reporter, who happened to be shopping, stopped to interview members at the rally for a local radio station.

As negotiations on a new union contract continue every day this week, Local 400 members are holding actions throughout West Virginia to keep the pressure on Kroger to negotiate a fair deal. The current contract, which expires on Saturday, October 7, covers 4,200 union members working at 39 Kroger stores in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.
