Dear Sweetspot Olney Management,

We, the undersigned, are writing on behalf of the employees at Sweetspot Olney to formally present a proposal regarding our current scheduling practices. We, the union, hope to work with you collaboratively toward solutions that benefit both employees and the company.

Initial interviews and discussions with management before employment promised a balanced and predictable work schedule that would allow for a better balance between work, life, education, and family. Specifically, we were assured a system prioritizing consistent scheduling and time off, including a four-day-on, three-day-off rotation. Unfortunately, recent scheduling practices have not aligned with these commitments, and we have witnessed a decline in employee satisfaction and well-being.

Employees increasingly report feeling overworked, experiencing burnout, and struggling with the lack of predictability in their schedules. Additionally, some employees are being scheduled to work multiple weekends in a row, and in some cases, employees have gone an entire month without a single weekend off. This situation needs to be more sustainable and consistent with the values of fairness, respect, and balance that we agreed upon during the hiring process.

After discussing these concerns with fellow employees and listening to their feedback, we propose the following improvements to the scheduling system at Sweetspot Olney:

4-Day-On, 3-Day-Off Schedule

We request that the company implement the promised 4-day-on, 3-day-off scheduling system, which was explicitly discussed during the interview process. This schedule will allow employees to have consistent time off, promoting a healthier work-life balance and reducing stress and burnout. This system will improve morale, improve attendance, and increase productivity.

No Employee Should Work an Entire Month Without a Weekend Off

Management should only schedule employees to work an entire month with at least one weekend off. Working weekends is a necessary part of our business, but it is equally essential for employees to have the opportunity to rest, spend time with family, and recharge during weekends. This policy would ensure that no employee is unfairly burdened with back-to-back weekend shifts without time off, which is critical for maintaining a sustainable workforce.

Consistent and Predictable Scheduling

Employees should receive their schedules with a minimum of two weeks’ notice, allowing them to plan their personal and family commitments. Consistent scheduling will reduce stress caused by last-minute changes and foster a more predictable and stable work environment. In addition, we request schedules be posted promptly so employees can review and address any potential conflicts before they arise.

We respectfully request that management review this proposal and meet with union representatives to discuss implementing these changes. We aim to reach a mutually beneficial solution that enhances employees’ working conditions while contributing to Sweetspot’s overall success and reputation.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to working together to create a more sustainable, productive, and fair work environment.
