Mike Wilson Elected Local 400 President; Kayla Mock Elected Secretary-Treasurer
New Leadership Team will Fight to Empower and Mobilize Members
The UFCW Local 400 Executive Board today elected Mike Wilson as President and Kayla Mock as Secretary-Treasurer. They succeed Mark P. Federici and Christopher Hoffmann, respectively, both of whom retired last month.
“I want to thank the Executive Board for putting their faith in me,” Wilson said. “It’s been a privilege working with Mark and Chris to win important victories in bargaining, organizing, member services, and political and legislative advocacy. They have left Local 400 far stronger than they found it. And I intend to build on their legacy to take Local 400 to new levels of power and effectiveness.
“Above all, we will continue being a Local that engages, involves and empowers our members to take an active role in everything their union does,” he said. “The more action our members take, the more power they gain to improve their lives and shape their destiny. Activism and solidarity are the key to making continued advances, and that will be my number one focus as president.”
“I’m grateful to the Executive Board for the confidence they’ve shown in me,” said Mock. “As a 26-year member of this great Local, it’s an honor to continue to serve my sisters and brothers as secretary-treasurer. I will work closely with Mike and all our officers and staff to empower and mobilize our members. Because together, there’s no stopping us.”
“It’s been the honor of my life in the labor movement to have served as president of Local 400 for the past 13 years,” Federici said. “Everything we’ve accomplished — contracts with record raises, a series of breakthrough organizing victories, record levels of member activism, and much more — has taken place with Mike Wilson and Chris Hoffmann by my side. I can’t think of anyone more deserving of the presidency than Mike and I know he’s going to keep our members moving forward.”
“For the past 10 years, I have sought to faithfully serve our members and ensure that their union was worthy of their greatness,” Hoffmann said. “Throughout this time, Kayla Mock’s dedication to this mission has been second to none — and she has mobilized our members to make Local 400 a fearsome legislative and political force. I am thrilled that she is succeeding me and confident that she will do an outstanding job as secretary-treasurer.”
Wilson has served as Local 400 Vice President and Executive Assistant to the President for the past 10 years. He previously helped lead multiple Local 400 campaigns, including the successful push to stop Giant Food from selling stores in 2016; several bargaining campaigns with Kroger, Giant, Safeway, and Shoppers; and helping secure the first presidential campaign union contract with Bernie 2020. He first joined the UFCW when he started work as a courtesy clerk at P&C Foods in Manlius, NY, while in high school.
Mock has served as Local 400 Political and Legislative Director for the past four years. She previously worked for Local 400 in a variety of positions, including membership education, organizing, and contract negotiations. She joined Local 400 in 2000 when she went to work as a food clerk at Giant in Manassas, VA, working there for 12 years before joining the staff.
President Wilson and Secretary-Treasurer Mock have taken their oaths of office and are hitting the ground running.
