2024 UFCW Local 400 Membership Fee Adjustment

An important message from UFCW Local 400 President Mark Federici

Let me begin by thanking you for being a member of UFCW Local 400. We are proud to have you in our union family. I write to you with an important update on your financial contributions to UFCW Local 400. With costs rising around the country, and a shrinking workforce in many of our union-represented workplaces, we must make the difficult decision to adjust membership fees in order to sustain the long-term health of your local union.

This is not a proposal we make lightly, and ultimately it is a decision that must be made by you and your fellow union members. It is important to understand that your membership fees have remained the same for the past six years and that 100% of your contributions go toward enforcing your union contract to protect you and your coworkers, organizing new members into our union, building our strength to bargain better contracts, and small administrative costs necessary to running our large organization.

If approved, the new membership fees will go into effect September 29, 2024 and are as follows:

If your rate will change by more than $2.50 per week (or $10.00 per month), then your rate adjustment will occur in two increments, beginning with $2.50 per week on September 29, 2024  and the remaining difference on September 28, 2025.

If approved, the new initiation fees, which are a one-time fee charged to new members when they sign up, will also go into effect on September 29, 2024 and are as follows:

As part of the proposed fee adjustment, we are also launching a new Defense Fund to support our members in need. 50 cents per week of the new rate will go toward this fund, which will allow us to build up a war chest that we can use to support members on strike and engage in other activities to pressure employers during collective bargaining. With this additional power, we can win better union contracts that put more money in your pocket and improve your benefits.

These new membership fees must be approved by a vote of the membership. We strongly encourage you to vote in favor of the fee adjustment to ensure the long-term success of your local union. Review the voting schedule below and make a plan to vote.

Join us for a Tele-Town Hall on Tuesday, September 10 at 4:00 p.m. to discuss the new fee structure. During the Tele-Town Hall, we will explain the proposed changes in detail, answer any questions you may have, and review the schedule for voting on the proposed changes. Votes will be tabulated on Thursday, September 19, 2024 and the results will be announced on our website shortly after ballots are counted.
