UFCW Local 400 Endorsed Candidates Sweep to Victory, Win Trifecta with a Pro-Worker Mandate

Pro-worker candidates endorsed by UFCW Local 400 won landslide victories throughout Virginia in the 2025 elections.

Abigail Spanberger was elected governor, Ghazala Hashmi was elected lieutenant governor, Jay Jones was elected attorney general, and Democrats won a commanding majority of at least 62 seats out of 100 in the House of Delegates, the largest majority in nearly 40 years. Hashmi, Jones and 57 House of Delegates winners were endorsed by UFCW Local 400.

“I couldn’t be prouder of how hard our members worked to win a pro-worker trifecta in Virginia,” said UFCW Local 400 President Mark P. Federici. “They walked door to door, worked phone banks, reached out to their neighbors and fellow members, and delivered for candidates who have pledged to deliver for us. In doing so, they won an overwhelming mandate for change.”

While UFCW Local 400 did not make an endorsement in the governor’s race because Spanberger would not commit to taking action on some of its members’ core issues, it did note that her record and positions were superior to her opponent. “Abigail Spanberger won a landslide victory because voters are fed up with President Trump’s assaults on working families,” Federici said. “This gives her a mandate to pursue strong pro-worker policies, including an end to Virginia’s notorious ‘right to work’ law. We look forward to working with her and our legislative allies to repeal this anti-worker law and pass legislation that will raise living standards, improve the quality of life and strengthen the rights of our members and all of the commonwealth’s working families.”
