March 30, 2026: This post has been updated after all other UFCW locals voted to ratify the agreements.
UFCW Local 400 members working at Kaiser Permanente voted overwhelmingly to approve new union contracts.
Professionals voted 974–39 (96%) and rehab therapists voted 43–0 (100%) in favor of ratifying the agreements.
Update: Following votes taken across all UFCW locals subject to the agreement, the contracts have officially been ratified as of Friday, March 27, 2026.
The agreements include 21.5% in wage increases over four years, with the majority of increases coming early in the agreement:
- 6.5% in March 2026
- 6.5% in October 2026
- 3% in August 2027
- 2.5% in October 2027
- 3% in October 2028
The agreement also includes additional wage grid and market adjustments across classifications.
The agreement also includes AI language to help shape and safeguard the future of healthcare workers.
Finally, we were able to achieve contract alignment and a common expiration date across all UFCW Locals, strengthening our ability to move forward together in future negotiations.
The agreement also preserves important benefits members rely on, including pensions and employer contributions, the partnership agreement, and additional funding for the Ben Hudnall Trust Fund.
“Congratulations to our members at Kaiser Permanente on winning strong new contracts,” said UFCW Local 400 President Mark Federici. “This was a lengthy and complex bargaining process but you stayed united and kept informed throughout. By sticking together as a union, our bargaining team was able to win the key priorities that mattered most to our members, as evidenced by the overwhelming support for the agreements. Thank you all for being part of our union family.”
As always, don’t hesitate to talk to your union representative or shop steward if you have any questions or concerns. Call our headquarters at 301-459-3400 (Mon-Fri, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) to be put in touch with your union representative.
What’s next?
Return to Partnership
Effective Monday, March 30, 2026, we will return to full participation in partnership activities, where we’ll begin discussions on how we can reconstitute, clarify, and strengthen the Labor Management Partnership between the Alliance and all of its member unions and Kaiser Permanente. We’ll keep you posted on what that will look like moving forward.
Local Bargaining Power
Another important change moving forward is that all issues that were previously handled nationally will now be included in local agreements. This means local bargaining committees will have greater control over the issues that most affect members in their facilities and regions, while still coordinating with other Alliance unions when needed.
Stay Ready, Stay United
This campaign was unlike any we’ve run before, and because of the strength and solidarity we showed this time around, we’re only going to be that much stronger when we come back to the table in four years. Kaiser has shown that they are willing to go to extremes to keep us from getting the contracts we deserve. So stay ready, stay united, and stay connected with your co-workers and your KP siblings across facilities, locals, and the country. Together, we’re more powerful than ever!
