We have reached tentative agreements to extend our current union contracts with Giant Food and Safeway that we, along with your bargaining advisory committee, are unanimously recommending for ratification.
How did we get here? During our last contract negotiations with Giant Food and Safeway in 2023, we committed to ongoing discussions with both companies to address improvements to our pension benefit. During those discussions, the companies proposed extending our current union contracts as part of those pension improvements.
Especially during this time of great uncertainty, locking in our current pay raises and benefits will safeguard us from potential losses if the economy does not rebound. That is why we are strongly recommending members vote to approve these extensions.
These tentative agreements lock in the benefits and pay raises of your current contracts, including:
- Increasing the Tier 2 pension benefit
- Maintaining current health and welfare benefits with no changes to out-of-pocket costs through October 27, 2029
- Extending current wage scales and annual pay increases for an additional two years
Now it is time to present the proposed contracts for a vote. The extended contracts will not take effect unless and until members vote in favor of ratifying the extension. If the proposed extensions are rejected, our current collective bargaining agreements will remain in effect and there will be no further negotiation on contract changes until we near their expiration in 2027.

At the Tele-Town Hall, we will review both companies’ offers in detail and answer any questions you may have ahead of voting. You must register to attend the Tele-Town Hall by filling out the form below.
After the Tele-Town Hall, voting will take place at stores throughout the region to provide every member with the opportunity to vote in their area. Voting will not take place over the phone. If you are unable to attend the Tele-Town Hall, print copies of both companies’ offers will be provided at each voting site. Review the voting schedule below and make a plan to vote at a store near you. You can vote at any store on the schedule, regardless of which employer you work for.
Votes will be counted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026 and any member can register to witness the vote count virtually at the link below. Members may also attend the vote count in person at our headquarters located at 8400 Corporate Drive, First Floor Meeting Room, Landover, MD 20785. The results of the vote will be immediately announced to members after ballots are tallied.

Voting Schedule
Voting will occur in select stores according to the schedule below.
- Voting is open at each location from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- You must be a member to vote.
- You can vote at any of the stores; you do not need to work at that store or for that company to vote there.
- Voting will take place inside the store in the break room or conference room. Ask a store employee for directions if you need help finding where to vote.
- Print copies of the company’s offer will be provided at each voting site and union reps will be available to answer your questions before you cast a vote.
