Over the last two weeks, Kaiser Permanente management has continued to refuse to make people available for bargaining who can make the decisions needed to get to a deal. After a summer of canceled bargaining dates and weeks between proposals, we have had enough.

On Monday, October 2, we will be holding a strike authorization vote. A “yes” vote will authorize our bargaining committee to call for an unfair labor practice strike of up to two weeks. We hope that this action will get Kaiser to bargain in good faith.

As we prepare for this vote, we remain far apart on key issues. Kaiser continues to propose taking away our Plan B retirement plan as well as reducing our pension multiplier. On patient management time, their proposals would only allow a small group to access additional time. On wages, they are proposing step increases that do not account for our increased cost of living.

We will be holding a meeting on Thursday, September 28 at 8:30 p.m. to go over the details and answer any questions about this process. Keep wearing your buttons and be ready to do whatever it takes to get the fair contract we deserve.
