Confirmed COVID cases are continuing to rise in stores under the West Virginia contract. Even since Kroger put out their latest contract offer just a few days ago, there has been a 30% increase in positive COVID cases among employees. Kroger associates are risking their lives to keep these stores operating, and Kroger is making more than ever.

Despite the rising cases among employees, after further talks this week Kroger is continuing to insist on disastrous changes to our health care benefits that puts your coverage at risk. We are ready to negotiate a fair deal that preserves health care benefits, but next week, we will vote on whatever offer is on the table.

As we explained in detail in our last update, Kroger’s proposal places a limit on the amount of money the company is required to pay to fund your health care benefits. According to the experts, as early as 14 months from now, this cap could be exceeded and several things could happen, including:

  • Your weekly contributions will increase
  • Your health care coverage will be slashed, with less coverage, higher deductibles, out of pockets, and copays, and increased prescription drug costs.
  • Your eligibility for benefits will change making you no longer eligible for health care

In addition, their proposal has many other problems, including:

  • Cuts to prescription benefits
  • No raises for some employees
  • Part-time employees will top out at $12.20/hour with no chance of increase
  • No premium increase for more than half of department heads
