Part of the strength of being in a politically active union are the powerful allies we have to support our members in times of need.

Last week, that strength was demonstrated when all four senators from Maryland and Virginia penned letters to Giant & Safeway in support of our members.

Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin from Maryland, along with Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner from Virginia, have written letters to Giant and Safeway urging both companies to “negotiate in good faith and come to an agreement that provides just compensation, meets the needs of your workers and the communities they serve…”

You can read the full text of the letters below.

We will continue to bring every force we have to bear on getting the fair contract our members at Giant and Safeway deserve. While we are continuing negotiations with both companies, we’re getting to ready to strike if that’s what it takes to get a fair contract.

Now is the time to get ready. Read our guide on how to prepare for a strike as well as our answers to frequently asked questions about going on strike.

We’re committed to keeping you updated every step of the way. Sign up for text alerts now and never miss an important update from your union.
