Resource Fair Scheduled for January 11

We have had several productive days of bargaining with Shoppers representatives this week but have not yet reached a final agreement on severance or other benefits for members impacted by the recently announced store sales and closures. While UNFI continues to disrespect us and our members by leaving people jobless and uncertain during the holidays, we are thankful for the strong support we have received from our customers, community organizations, and elected officials through this process.

With the addition of the White Flint Plaza store closure announced yesterday, all 18 stores that have announced sales or closures are either covered by the WARN Act, meaning all employees will continue to get paid through at least February 5, or have their rights to transfer and bump under the current union contract. Your contract remains in effect throughout this process unless or until a severance agreement is reached, which may modify some provisions.

In addition to continuing to push for a fair severance package at the bargaining table, with the support of our community and political allies, we will also be holding a Resource Fair on Saturday, January 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at UFCW Local 400, 8400 Corporate Dr, 1st Floor Meeting Room, Landover, MD 20785. Resources will be available for financial assistance as well as job training and placement.

As the bargaining process continues, we will keep you updated every step of the way. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to talk to your union representative or call our headquarters at 301-459-3400. Please note: If your call is not answered, please leave a voicemail message including your name, store, and phone number and a union representative will follow up with you promptly.
