Shop Stewards Taking Action: Canvassing for Anthony Brown in Maryland, Member Sign Up in Virginia
Shop Stewards from Giant and Safeway in Maryland, DC and Virginia stores gathered for a seminar to go over new bargaining health benefits as well as changes around the Federal ACA. During the Maryland/DC meeting on Tuesday, stewards clad in yellow UFCW Local 400 branded ponchos canvassed at near by stores for Local 400 endorsed candidate for the Governor of Maryland, Anthony Brown who also made an appearance at the seminar (check out the photos here)Thursday, the Virginia Giant and Safeway Shop Stewards after receiving a training on how to sign up members in closed shop state, they broke out into teams and went to nearby northern Virginia stores to sign up non-members. By the end of the day the stewards collected over 20 new member applications!
