Last week we shared that the Bestway employees from the Mt. Vernon, VA location took a vote to have UFCW Local 400 recognized as their union. After the vote was complete, there were 16 union “yes” votes, 10 “no” votes and 9 challenge votes. Thursday May 1, the challenge ballots were opened, examined by the National Labor Relations Board and with a 19-10 vote, Bestway Mt. Vernon employees are victorious!
“Thanks to all my coworkers for showing unity through the election process,” said Bestway Mt. Vernon employee, Luis Manzanares. “We put our hope in God to sit at the bargaining table very soon to start negotiating our first contract! We are ready!!!”
The very next day, the company filed to challenge our victory.
