We have a chance to make sure that some of the profits that large, wealthy retailers are making in D.C. are shared with their hard working employees. Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Room 500) the D.C. Council will vote on the Large Retailer Accountability Act, which will require large, wealthy retailers to pay a living wage to their employees in D.C.
Hundreds have emailed and called the council, signed cards and petitions, and attended rallies and lobby days in support of this bill. This morning we are in the final push for passage! If you cannot make it downtown today please take a moment to email the council by clicking here and encourage them to support the bill.
Corporate and business interests have been at the council every day trying to get our elected officials to go against the best interests of D.C. residents. This bill is specifically targeted at retailers that are large and wealthy enough to be able to afford to pay a higher wage, putting more money in the pockets of D.C workers, boosting the economy by giving them more spending money, and allowing them to get off of public assistance.
Click here to email the council now and tell them to support D.C. workers, not corporate interests!
