Making Change at Walmart is holding a national day of action today around theissue of scheduling and hours. OUR Walmart members and allies will be taking action at over 100 stores nationwide to call on Walmart to make good on its public commitment. Want to get involved? Join RespectDC today! They will be gathering at 11am at the McDonalds in the parking lot of the Walmart at Capital Plaza, 6210 Annapolis Rd, Landover Hills, MD. Click here to RSVP for the action.
In January, Walmart publicly committed to more scheduling transparency and increased hours for employees who want them. Four months later, Walmart has yet to fully act on this commitment. Perhaps you’ve seen the photos of empty shelves in Walmart’s across the country due to the lack of staffing or even this heartfelt video of Chicago Walmart Associate Rose Campbell(right), who is considered a full-time employee although she has never worked 40 hours a week. Please watch her story here.
If you can’t make it out today please join us online by signing this petition. By signing, you are supporting Walmart workers who aren’t getting the hours they need to make ends meet and calling on Walmart to change its ways! – photo (above): empty shelves at Walmart; photo courtesy OUR Walmart; (below): screen shot from Campbell’s video
