UFCW Local 400 President Mark P. Federici issued the following statement on President Obama’s nomination of Thomas E. Perez as the next secretary of labor:
“In nominating Tom Perez, President Obama could not have chosen a more qualified leader to serve as secretary of labor.
“For more than a decade, Local 400 members have enjoyed a close, productive relationship with this outstanding public servant. From his service on the Montgomery County Council to his work as Maryland secretary of labor, licensing and regulation, we have always been able to count on Tom Perez as a friend who listens to our concerns and who is a champion of working families.
“Most recently, he has shown outstanding leadership as assistant attorney general for civil rights, continuing his remarkable record as a fighter for justice.
“I am confident that as secretary of labor, Tom Perez will work tenaciously to help create good jobs, and to vigorously and fairly enforce the law, upholding workers’ rights and protecting our well-being.
“On behalf of all of our 35,000 members, I strongly urge the Senate to confirm Tom Perez as secretary of labor as soon as possible.”
