Kevin Freeman, Shoppers #2618

The sale of five Supervalu banners to Cerberus Capital Management, announced on January 10, does not affect Shoppers Food & Pharmacy.

Under the deal, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Acme, and Shaw’s and Star Market were acquired by Cerberus, but Shoppers will remain a Supervalu banner, along with Cub, Farm Fresh, Shoppers, Shop ‘n Save, Hornbacher’s and Save-A-Lot.

“Our Shoppers members can rest assured that the Supervalu-Cerberus deal should have no impact on them,” said Local 400 President Mark Federici.

“We are vigilantly monitoring Supervalu’s efforts to reorganize and restructure itself, and we are making sure that our members’ voices are heard and their interests are addressed throughout the process,” Federici said. “This includes letting management know of our continued outrage over Supervalu’s use of the non-union Save-A-Lot banner, and preparation for our 2014 bargaining.

“While we don’t anticipate any major changes at this point, we will let our members know the moment management does anything that might affect their jobs and their lives,” he added.
