In yesterday’s Washington Post a Letter to the Editor by Andy Shallal discussed the concern he has for the Washington D.C. communities where Walmart is planning on building four stores. Cities like Chicago have already seen the negative effects of Walmart coming into their city, where 82 businesses that sold competing goods closed within two years of Walmart’s arrival. “Imagine the disastrous consequences of four stores in a city like the District, which has a fraction of Chicago’s population,” Shallal wrote.
