The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) is a grassroots farm worker organization based in Southwest Florida that has been honored internationally for its work toward justice in the fields. Over a number of years ago the CIW have pressured large companies to pay an extra cent per pound of tomatoes in order to improve working conditions and wages of farm laborers. With victories in fast food chains, McDonald’s and Taco Bell, the CIW and its supporters are encouraging Ahold USA and other large companies to do the same. UFCW Local 400 Representatives, the Coalition, SLAP (Student Labor Action Project), and ROC (Restaurant Opportunities Center) all turned out for the rally in front of Giant Food on Park Rd. in Washington, D.C. The group stood outside the store chanting and holding self-made signs in the shape of tomatoes. Later, the group headed inside the store to hand deliver this letter to the store manager.  Click here to Take Action.
