On Sunday, November 14th, join Jews United for Justice as we “mini-mob” Teaism for supporting the idea of extending paid sick days to all restaurant employees! Teaism currently provides 5-7 sick days to ALL of their workers!

Almost two years ago, the District passed the
Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act, which provides between 3-7 days of paid sick/safe leave.  However, the law left out many workers, including tipped restaurant workers.

This means that your server, waitress, waiter, and bartender are working and serving you while they’re sick because they can’t afford to take a day off! The DC Employment Justice Center and Restaurant Opportunities Center DC have partnered to put on this Carrotmob to educate people about the law and highlight those workers who are excluded.

Carrotmob comes from the phrase “use the carrot, not the stick.” Carrotmob is a method of activism that enables consumers to use their buying power to reward businesses that will take socially responsible actions. Carrotmob channels customers to companies with good business practices.

We think paid sick days are important for all employees and Teaism agrees with us!  The general CarrotMob is happening on Saturday, but JUFJ’s special mini-mob is on Sunday. So come out and support Teaism’s great business practices on Sunday, November 14th from 10am to 1 pm at the Penn Quarter location, 400 8th Street, NW.
