Charging that retail giant Wal-Mart is costing the community millions of dollars in unpaid taxes, members, staff and supporters of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 400 will distributed pamphlets to downtown Metro commuters Thursday, April 15th highlighting how the mega-retailer dodges taxes. Commuters emerging from Metro Center’s 12th & G station were greeted with a large banner reading “WalMart Dodges Taxes. Now We’re Paying For It” as the activists flyer, “Stop by for a few minutes tomorrow to help us let taxpayers know just how much ‘low-cost’ Wal-Mart is really costing them,” says event coordinator and UFCW 400 organizer Jim Hepner. “Wal-Mart is taking advantage of loopholes to avoid millions in taxes while ordinary folks are left holding the bag.
