The UFCW Free College Benefit makes it possible for you and/or your loved ones to earn an Associate Degree online through Eastern Gateway Community College with no out-of-pocket costs and no need for loans. There are no tuition, fee or e-book charges—saving you thousands of dollars!

This benefit is available exclusively to UFCW members, retired members, and the families of members, including children, spouses, grandchildren, domestic partners, and dependents.

The Free College Benefit covers any amount for tuition, fees or books that Is not covered by federal or employer education grants.

Best of all, the UFCW Free College Benefit is designed to help you balance work and home life.  You can attend school part-time or full-time – whichever fits your schedule.  All you need to get started is a high school degree or GED. There are no entrance exams to worry about.

Apply Now for a $5,000 Scholarship from Ashcraft & Gerel

Did you know? As a member of Local 400, you have the chance to receive a $5,000 scholarship for you or an immediate family member.

For more than 30 years, the law firm of Ashcraft & Gerel, LLP has been offering union members and their families throughout the Washington, D.C. area the opportunity to alleviate the stressors that come with paying for the high cost of education.

Each year, the law firm awards a one-time grant of $5,000 to an eligible student for education expenses. That student could be you or an immediate family member!

Apply Today for the UFCW Charity Foundation Scholarship

The UFCW is about workers coming together to build better lives for themselves. It is about creating opportunity.

That’s why every year the UFCW Scholarship Program offers scholarships to UFCW members or their immediate family members who want to further their education and demonstrate a commitment to their communities and to UFCW values.  Since 1958, the fund has distributed more than $2 million in scholarships.

Past winners have gone on to make significant contributions to society and to the UFCW – entering a range of fields including public service, medicine, law, business and teaching.  Many have returned to the UFCW as staffers, organizers, and community activists who contribute to our mission. About the Scholarship

THE MARTIN E. GEREL MEMORIAL UNION SCHOLARSHIP 2017

The law firm of ASHCRAFT & GEREL, LLP has always valued their connection with the Washington, DC union movement. In recognition of this special relationship, the firm established a Union Scholarship Program more than 30 years ago. We are pleased to honor this commitment by providing a scholarship in memory of Martin E Gerel.

The law firm of ASHCRAFT & GEREL, LLP offers this Scholarship to numerous Washington, DC metropolitan area union members and their families to help with the high cost of education. Each year we award a one-time grant of $5,000.00 to an eligible student for education expenses.

Announcing the 2017 UFCW & FELRA Scholarship

If you’re a Local 400 member working at Giant Food, Safeway, or Shoppers Food Warehouse, you or a family member could be eligible for an exclusive scholarship worth up to $2,500!

About the Scholarship

The UFCW & FELRA Scholarship Program expects to award scholarships to a select number of eligible participants and their dependents who will be enrolled in an accredited college, university, community college, vocational school, or trade or technical school as a full-time student in the Fall of 2017.

Participants and their dependents are eligible to apply for a scholarship award if, as of December 31, 2016, the participant completes at least one uninterrupted Year of Service and is actively employed by Giant Food, Safeway, or Shoppers Food Warehouse. In addition, on December 31, 2016, dependent child applicants must be under the age of 24, unmarried and a dependent of the participant for federal income tax purposes.

Applicants who submit preliminary applications and meet the initial scholarship award requirements will be mailed a full application in early January 2017.  

IMPORTANT: If your dependent does not have medical coverage through the Fund Office, please include a copy of a marriage certificate (if spouse), or birth certificate or custody order (if child) with the preliminary application.
