America needs more nurses! Stat!
America’s hospitals are dangerously short-staffed. Nurses are responsible fro 10 or more critical care patients, and paperwork, and non-direct care duties. They are so overworked that, sometimes, they can no longer save lives.

This is not news. Politicians, journalists, and hospital administrators all know that understaffing is driving experienced, committed nurses from their profession and killing patients.

Training more nurses is not going to address understaffing--we must hold on to the nurses we have. We need laws that limit workloads. If America needs nurses, our nurses and our patients need safe staffing ratios now.

Prescription for Safety: A United Voice for Safe Staffing Now
"I think that patient safety demands staffing ratios. There are only so many patients a nurse can care for before his/her attention is spread too thin. This increases the risk of mistakes and places the patients in danger."
~ Iris Woodard, Kaiser Permanente

We won state legislation establishing staffing ratios in California. We won contracts that include staffing ratios in hospitals. Wherever we have staffing ratios, we are saving lives.

Now, half a million nurses from AFL-CIO unions are taking the fight for staffing ratios to states around the country. We are also fighting for national safe staffing laws.

Our legislators, our co-workers, our communities, and our bosses need to know: we are a united voice for safe staffing, NOW!

We need your help:

  • Sign-Up: Become part of the AFL-CIO Nurses: United Voice for Safe Staffing Now campaign in your state.
  • Send a Message: Tell your legislators that you want them to take action for safe staffing.
  • Keep Connected: Find out what is happening in the fight for safe staffing in your state and around the country.
  • Pass the Word: Let your friends know about this fight.
