According to David Tindell, Digital Media Coordinator at Union Plus, in a posting  he wrote for Blue Nation Review, there are two trends that “mean millennials need to learn about unions —like yesterday.”
1. An increase of freelance workers
This doesn’t happen too often in Local 400’s industries — though we could view it as employers more readily hire part time workers since they don’t have to provide levels of health care to those employees.
2. The rise of automation
He writes, “the robots are coming, and it could be even scarier than a “Terminator“ flick if it’s your job they’re replacing. We’ve all seen this one right? Ahem, self-checkouts.

Scary stuff! All the more reason to educate our youth in understanding how powerful unions can be and the still all too important roll they still play in working peoples’ lives.
